it used to take around 4-5 working days to obtain a tourist visa from the japanese embassy. the process was simple, despite the fact that appointment slots were difficult to get. at least after submission, there was no ambiguity in when the passport would be released for collection. however, with the engagement of VFS global, the embassy and the company are able to bounce back responsibilities off of each other to only provide ambiguous answers regarding the passport. if you call the japanese embassy, they will redirect you to vfs global without a word and if you call vfs global, they will say that this issue is out of their hands because the passport is at the embassy. there is very little empathy and customer service available from both the embassy and the company it has engaged. the way the representatives talk would make you think your passport isn’t sitting with them at that very moment. at the end of the day, the passport is still going through the embassy so it is still the em

the process and documents required are not consistent with the guidelines. Note to all those applying multiple entries under G7 visa scheme: the guidelines clearly stated that we are eligible apply for multiple entries if we have visa to G7 countries past 3 years without the need for visa to Japan. hence we submitted the documents under that G7 track and successfully did so via VFS centre. However, few days later, we received a noti that we are not eligible under G7 track without a Japan visa (come on! if we had Japan visa, we might as well apply under different track) and asked us for more documents. This inconsistency is ridiculous, as we have checked several times ourselves and VFS centre also did a thorough check on what documents needed. indeed, Japan now make it difficult for tourists to get a visa, to reduce the influx of tourists. that said, they should make it clearer at the start what are the necessary documents for a visa, instead of coming up with a ridiculous reason in

The queue is long and there was queue even as early as 1 hour before appointment time. Photo IC is required to enter the building and visitors need to go through security check. However, the process is fast and orderly. Even though queue is long, the embassy staffs are quick and friendly. Make sure you have booked your appointment online as you cannot enter if you didn't do so. Also make sure you have prepared all your documents and filled in all your forms so that you won't cause delay to others next in the queue

This review is about one particular employee at the embassy. Everyone else was very nice and the overall procedures are all proper. This was for my Japan visa pickup. I was utterly shocked at the insane disrespect. I have never experienced anyone this rude and condescending in my life before. I tried saying hello, but got rushed down immediately. The man was bald wearing glasses. I handed him my ticket and ID number when my number was called for and he threw it out the counter window saying “number only”. No eye contact nothing. I handed him my ticket, then he clicked his tongue, rolled his eyes and asked for the ID. I gave it to him and he reacted like I just insulted his entire family or handed him something very abnormal. He looked at it, retrieved the passport, flipped through it so rough three pages now have folds in them, and then in the most condescending way told me to get out. Whats more is I picked up my visa at the earliest time possible but it was dated for a week prior
