  I deal with authorities all the time. And I am a real complicated customer. Always have been, always will be, it is what it is. Things are not helped by the fact that I am a lawyer: we always believe to know everything better. And I am the very first person to complain. Very loudly. Very publicly. At the slightest issue I may encounter. But let us also praise where praise is very much due: Germany can be very proud of this small German consulate in Surabaya and its fantastic staff. A friendly and helpful attitude, even willing to do overtime in order to help us with a last minute emergency application, everything done with a smile and personal empathy. Job well done! Thanks for all the help and assistance, everything worked out like clockwork. The consulate and its staff are a great outpost of a generous and kind Germany.   Place was easy to find. However, since it's very small it was hard to park nearby. This place is very understaffed with only 1 staff working to accommodate several visa applications. I called several times to make an appointment but no one ever picked up the phone. Finally, I decided to email them and thankfully I got a reply. I had an appointment at 8.30am and by the time I arrived, 3 other people were also scheduled at the same time (which was very weird because the thorough checking lasted about 15 minutes for per application) The staff who checked my application was very helpful and detailed. Maybe even amazing since she did everything by herself from 8.20 - 14.00. Missed some details so I was told to come back before 12. I did that but by the time I went back 10 other people were already queuing to get their applications checked. They have an air conditioned waiting room so it was not too bad. It would be great if they can employ more people to improve the service time so th
