On-the-ground research
Where we cover specific operators, restaurants, hotels, dive shops or schools, we draw on first-hand visits, direct reporting and the consensus of established expat community knowledge (Facebook groups, Reddit Indonesia and Bali subreddits, TripAdvisor with critical reading). We do not accept payment for placement.
What we explicitly don’t source from
- AI-generated content as the source of facts
- Unverified single-source social media posts
- Sponsored content disguised as editorial
- Out-of-date tour operator marketing materials
How to verify time-sensitive information
For anything that may have changed since we last reviewed a page (visa rules, levy amounts, tax thresholds, operator quality, hospital details, volcanic alert status, weather forecasts):
- Check the official Indonesian source above
- Cross-reference with your home country’s travel advisory
- For operator-specific concerns, check recent TripAdvisor reviews for the specific operator and route
- For specialist advice (legal, tax, medical), consult a licensed Indonesian professional
- See our editorial policy for our review schedule
